The Braun Series 9 Pro+ is not one fixed box of accessories. The newer 96xx generation changes the shaving cassette and beard-density sensor, while kit numbers determine whether you receive a cleaning station, an ordinary case or a charging case. Get those distinctions right before paying for an upgrade.
Compare it for face shaving, with the exact kit in view. Ovidiu Nicolae’s 96xx review at ShaverCheck reports a close, comfortable shave and a modest improvement over earlier Series 9 models. He also flags noise, a disappointing integrated trimmer and the lack of USB-C.
Already own a working Series 9? Investigate the replacement cassette before replacing the whole machine. Do not buy the Series 9 Pro+ on the assumption that every kit includes PowerCase.
The quick picks
Which Series 9 Pro+ generation are you comparing?
Nicolae’s 96xx review, updated July 11, 2026 separates the newer 96xx models from the earlier 95xx Pro+ generation. His review unit is a UK 9665cce, not every model in the range. That distinction matters when comparing his experience with another country’s package.
Braun’s current U.S. range page describes ProSensoAdapt beard-density analysis at 300 times per second and the newer precision blades. Braun publishes that figure as a sensor specification. The figure does not establish that a sensor makes every shave faster or that all older Pro+ models have the same hardware.
The useful buying question is which cassette, generation and accessories the offered Series 9 Pro+ actually has. A broad family name can hide differences that matter more than the color. Compare the model number on the offer with the maker’s information before treating two bundles as equivalent.
It’s important to note that the Series 9, including the PRO and PRO+, is a 4-blade foil shaver.
What the 9660CCPS kit includes
Braun’s 9660ccps product page describes a 6-in-1 SmartCare station and an extra shaving head, with a travel case shown in its kit imagery. It separately identifies other models with PowerCase. ShaverCheck’s U.S. model table likewise lists 9660CCPS with a textile case and an extra 96M head, rather than a charging case.
PowerCase and a protective travel case are different accessories. The first can provide stored power; the second should not be described as charging the shaver. Check the seller’s contents for the exact Pro+ kit instead of assuming a feature shown elsewhere in the range is included.
For a buyer starting from scratch, a cleaning station and spare cassette may be useful. For an existing owner, they may duplicate equipment you already have. That is why a kit comparison is more useful than declaring every extra accessory essential.
What the 96xx reviewer found
Nicolae compared his 96xx with earlier models using the 94M cassette and found a slightly smoother dry result. He did not describe a radical improvement. His review also says the benefits of the new cassette are relevant to existing owners considering a replacement head rather than an entirely new machine.
He reports comfortable shaving on his face, including his neck, but those are his results. They do not establish that the Series 9 Pro+ prevents irritation or will suit every beard. His comparison also favors other designs for some tasks, rather than naming Braun an automatic winner for everyone.
The integrated slide-out trimmer is a particular reservation. Nicolae found its position and effectiveness disappointing. If crisp outlining is an important part of your routine, judge that feature separately instead of assuming an expensive foil shaver replaces a dedicated trimmer.
The hair trimmer is the same from the 95xx generation, so it has the straight and not the curved edge.
What Braun’s 5+1 description means
The maker’s range breakdown names two OptiFoil elements, a ProLift blade, a Direct&Cut blade, a SkinGuard bar and an integrated precision trimmer. These are not six identical cutting foils. ShaverCheck explains the distinction as four active cutters in the cassette, plus the guard and separate extendable trimmer.
That makes it easier to compare the Pro+ without turning a marketing count into a blade-count claim. Nicolae identifies the newer 96M cassette as the important shaving-head change. Braun’s support page lists replacement systems, so confirm the appropriate replacement for your unit rather than buying by the word Series 9 alone.

Battery and display: published figures, not weeks promised
Braun gives the current range up to 60 minutes of cordless runtime and a five-minute quick charge for one shave. Your shaving time determines how long a charge lasts in calendar days. There is no useful basis for promising every owner two weeks or six weeks between charges.
Nicolae says the 96xx remains cordless-only in use and uses Braun’s dedicated charging connection, not USB-C. His display discussion also distinguishes the newer bars and reminders from the numerical near-empty countdown on older models. Do not assume a review of an older display describes the new one.
Cleaning and running costs
Braun’s support guidance describes the SmartCare center as cleaning, charging and lubricating the blades. Those are maintenance functions, not a reason to call the shaver sterilized or ready for shared professional use. Keep a personal shaving review separate from a shop’s disinfection requirements.
A cassette is not the only recurring supply if you use a cleaning station: its fluid cartridges need replacement too. Nicolae also discusses manual cleaning, so the station is a convenience choice rather than the only possible upkeep route. Follow the instructions for your unit and keep the original charger available.
Braun recommends head replacement at about 18 months. Treat that as maker guidance, not proof that its cutters outlast competitors or a guarantee that yours will last exactly that long. Before buying the Series 9 Pro+, compare the price and fit of replacement parts as well as the initial bundle.
First, make sure you’re using the original charger and give your device enough time to charge fully.
Check the exact model and included parts against what you already own. A spare cassette has a different use from a charging case, and neither answers whether the shaving head suits you. If you are replacing an older shaver because of a damaged head, worn battery or a missing charger, compare that specific replacement or repair route before treating the whole bundle as the only answer.
Owner reports: separate the generation from the anecdote
In a February 2025 r/shaving discussion, u/BakingFilmMaker praised the family’s wet-shave results but reported failures across several older units. Other commenters described different experiences. The thread predates the 96xx launch, so it is not evidence of a 96xx failure rate or a diagnosis of the current design.
The useful lesson is to check the service route and keep proof of purchase. Braun’s current support page provides troubleshooting, repair and warranty information. Warranty coverage and any registration offer need to be checked for your market; an extended term mentioned by an overseas reviewer is not automatically your coverage.

Shop with Scott has a model-family Pro+ review. Shaving Advisor’s accompanying written review identifies Jason Jones’s unit as 9527s, an earlier generation. Geezer Into Tech’s video concerns Series 9 and Series 9 Pro, not a dedicated 96xx Pro+ test. These are useful perspectives to compare, not interchangeable proof of the same kit or motor upgrade.

The Skull Shaver Pitbull Gold PRO GX5 is a rotary head-shaver option if grip matters more to your decision than another foil-shaver feature list. It is a different tool shape, not a claimed upgrade over Braun for every face.
The Wahl Cordless Detailer Li is an outlining-tool option to compare separately if that is the job you need. It is not a replacement cassette or accessory for the Braun.

FAQ
Does every Pro+ include PowerCase? No. Braun identifies kit-specific accessories; 9660CCPS should not be described as a PowerCase bundle.
Should an existing owner upgrade? Start with the problem you want to solve. Nicolae found the 96xx improvement modest and discusses a cassette upgrade as an alternative for existing owners.
Is the sensor a speed guarantee? No. Braun’s sensor specification describes the technology, not your personal shave time.
Is this a six-blade shaver? ShaverCheck distinguishes four active cutters from Braun’s broader 5+1 element description, which includes a guard and integrated trimmer.
