Quick Answer

Quick verdict. The FXT45 line is a clipper, a trimmer and a wireless charging mat made by BaBylissPRO with Tomb45. Buy the clipper and mat if you want a dual-speed fade clipper with a charging station behind the chair. Add the trimmer if you want a matching detailer. Check both makers’ pages first, because prices and bundles change.

It helps to know who is who here. BaBylissPRO builds the tools. Tomb45, the brand founded by barber Chris Bossio, co-designs them and sells them on tomb45.com. For background on the people, see our profile of Bossio and how he built Tomb45.

How the Dual-Speed Motor Works

BaBylissPRO’s manual says the clipper starts on the lower speed, 6,800 RPM. You turn it on, then press the speed button to switch to the higher setting, 7,500 RPM. The manual says to change speed only while the clipper is on and not while cutting. So pick your speed before you start a blend, not mid-stroke.

The clipper also lists a metal injection molded tri-blade, a cleaning brush, oil, six combs and a USB adapter with a USB-C cable in the box.

Good to know

BaBylissPRO says the clipper starts on the lower speed, 6,800 RPM. You press the speed button to switch to the higher setting, 7,500 RPM.

The Wireless Station

The mat is what makes this line different. BaBylissPRO says the tool turns off automatically when you set it on the mat, and an LED rim shows it is charging. Tomb45 also sells a Powered Mat, a wireless charging organizing mat, and a bundle that pairs the clipper, trimmer, Wireless PowerMat and FXT45 Powered Mat.

If you do not want wireless charging, the manual lists USB-C and corded options for the clipper.
