The Braun Series 9 Pro+ versus Panasonic ARC5 choice starts with two model numbers: 9660CCPS and ES-LV65-S. The Braun bundle includes a cleaning station and spare cassette. Panasonic’s ES-LV65 manual describes a shaver, travel case and adaptor, with a rinse-and-dry cleaning routine. Compare those ownership choices before treating a review of another generation as a verdict on these two kits.
Compare Braun 9660CCPS if you want a station bundle. Check the included spare head and textile travel case. Do not confuse it with a PowerCase kit.

Series 9 and ARC5 are families, not fixed accessory lists. Jason Jones’s Shaving Advisor comparison separates Braun 93xx, 94xx Pro and 95xx Pro+ models. His written comparison lists several later Panasonic variants, including LV6Q, LV9Q, LV6U and LV9U. That is useful family context, but it is not a controlled 9660CCPS-versus-ES-LV65-S test.
For the newer Braun, Ovidiu Nicolae’s ShaverCheck 96xx review distinguishes 96xx from 95xx Pro+. His unit is a UK 9665cce, while the linked Braun kit is 9660CCPS. The cassette generation and the box contents are separate questions. A review can help with one without establishing the other.
Panasonic’s ES-LV65 operating instructions give the exact controls and replacement parts for that model. Keep that document alongside a comparison video. A similar-looking ARC5 with a cleaning station or different display does not make those features part of the ES-LV65-S package.
What the kits include
Braun’s 9660ccps page identifies a 6-in-1 SmartCare station and extra shaving head. ShaverCheck’s U.S. kit table identifies a textile case for 9660CCPS. PowerCase is a different accessory supplied with other bundles; a travel case should not be described as charging the shaver.
The ES-LV65 manual identifies an AC adaptor and travel case in its parts list. It does not give this model a cleaning-station routine. That makes the practical contrast clear: the Braun bundle adds a station and its supplies, while Panasonic’s manual puts cleaning at the sink. Neither arrangement settles which shaving head you will prefer.
Before buying either as a gift, ask what the recipient already uses. A spare cassette may be welcome, but a second cleaning station might duplicate equipment. Someone who prefers to rinse and pack away a shaver may not want another powered item on the counter. Those are buying preferences, not reasons to declare one machine the universal winner.
What comparison reviews actually cover
Jones reports a slightly closer result from the ARC5 models he used, while finding the Braun head easier to maneuver in some areas. He also finds useful differences in grip and head locking. His model list identifies which machines those observations describe.
His generation list matters as much as his conclusion. The written comparison names 95xx Pro+ rather than the newer 96xx. Nicolae’s newer Braun review, meanwhile, describes the 96xx improvement over earlier heads as modest. Read those reports together for context, but do not transfer an older head-to-head score to a newly named kit.
Most of these revisions and upgrades do not change the fundamentals of how that series performs and shaves. However, sometimes, other significant changes are made.

Living with the Panasonic ES-LV65-S
Panasonic’s manual separates shaving mode from sonic cleaning mode. Holding the power switch for more than two seconds starts the cleaning mode, which cannot be used for shaving. It also says to keep your fingers off the power switch while shaving and use the finger rest instead, so you do not switch modes or turn the machine off accidentally.
For cleaning, disconnect the cord, apply hand soap and water to the outer foil, and follow the sonic-mode sequence in the manual. The instructions then call for removing the outer foil section, rinsing, wiping away water and drying the shaver and outer section completely before reassembly. This is a model-specific routine, not permission to wash every barber foil.
The head has FREE and LOCK pivot settings. The power control also distinguishes sensor mode from normal mode. If the sound does not change, Panasonic notes that beard thickness, gel type or low battery can affect the sensor response. Check the operating mode and the manual before assuming an unfamiliar sound means the machine is faulty.
You cannot operate the shaver while charging.
Panasonic also distinguishes cleaning tools. Its manual uses the long brush for the outer foil, body and trimmer, and the short brush for the inner blades. The short brush is not for the outer foils. When replacing the outer section, the frame marks need to face the right way and the section should click into place. Keep the protective cap for storage, check the foil for damage and let washed parts dry completely before packing the shaver in its case.
Living with the Braun 9660CCPS
The station is the main bundle difference to weigh. Braun support describes SmartCare cleaning, charging and lubricating the blades. If you want that routine, include cartridge replacement and counter space in your decision. The station is equipment to maintain, not a free-running extra.
Nicolae also discusses manual cleaning in his 96xx review. That makes the station a convenience choice rather than proof that the shaver has no other care route. Use the instructions for your model instead of borrowing the ES-LV65’s sonic-mode steps. The two machines have different controls and cutting assemblies.
The newer cassette is also worth separating from the whole shaver. If you already own a working Series 9, investigate replacement compatibility before replacing the entire bundle. Nicolae’s review discusses a cassette upgrade for existing owners. Confirm the exact replacement for your unit rather than buying a part on the family name alone.
Replacement parts and running costs
For ES-LV65, Panasonic lists the outer foil at once a year and inner blades at once every two years, with usage affecting the reminder. Its parts list identifies WES9032 as the combined set, WES9173 as the outer foil and WES9170 as the inner blades. Check those references against the pack you are considering, not just the word ARC5.
Braun recommends head replacement at about 18 months. That is maker guidance, not a promise that its cassette will outlast Panasonic’s parts. A station owner also needs cleaning fluid. Compare the exact replacement parts and supplies when checking the current Braun and Panasonic offers; a bundle’s starting price alone misses those purchases.
Dry the outer foil section and the shaver completely.
Who should skip each setup?
Skip the station bundle if you do not want its upkeep. Buying a station does not remove the need to replace fluid or maintain the cassette. If you already have a compatible setup, compare what you would actually use from the 9660CCPS box.
Skip the ES-LV65-S if you specifically want an included station. Buy the package that provides the routine you want rather than assuming an ARC5 family video describes its accessories. Also check the replacement-part route before giving an older model as a gift.
For a broader choice of mechanisms, the electric shaver buying guide compares other options. Keep this decision on the two exact kits, their controls and care. The best match is the setup the owner will actually use and maintain.

The ProFoil is a dry-only finishing foil for short stubble and fade cleanup. It is a different job from choosing a washable personal shaver: do not rinse it, and do not expect it to remove a longer beard without pre-trimming.

The Pitbull Gold PRO GX5 is a rotary head-shaver option with a different grip. Compare it for head shaving rather than treating another face-shaver bundle as the only choice.
FAQ
Does 9660CCPS include PowerCase? The kit information identifies a textile case and extra head, not PowerCase.
Can I use the Panasonic while plugged in? Its manual says you cannot operate it while charging.
Does an older comparison prove which exact kit shaves closer? No. Read the reviewer’s model numbers and observations together; a family name does not erase generation changes.
